He stayed in the village of Murugu, near Damongo in the Northern Region, for several days to train people in the use of the ovens.

 

 

WHY USE OUR SOLAR OVENS?

Solar cooking saves time - the food can be left while other activities can be undertaken. Many food types do not require the addition of water, so trips to collect water or firewood are no longer necessary.

The cooking goes on, even when you're not there to watch it!

 

Solar cooking saves money -  With no firewood or charcoal required, then there are no outgoings required other than the initial outlay. It is virtually maintenance free, so unlike electric, gas or solid fuel cooking, once bought, there are no other bills.

Solar cooking saves the environment -

Many households in the developing world, such as Africa, depend on wood and charcoal to prepare food, and the supply of wood is rapidly disappearing. The demands of massive population growth and the inefficient conversion of wood to charcoal have outstripped much of the forests’ ability to regenerate.

 The growing problem of deforestation and global warming calls for alternative energy sources.  Cook stoves in developing countries are individually small, but so numerous that, depending on emission factors, they could have a significant impact on global warming.

One family using a solar cooker only 50% of the time will prevent 1,311 kilos or 2,885 pounds of CO2  from being discharged into the atmosphere per year, what a great way to reduce your carbon footprint!

By not using wood or charcoal, the natural environment is preserved. As no smoke results from the cooking process, no carbon is allowed to escape into the atmosphere.Traditional cooking is back-breaking, smoky and requires water and firewood.

 

   

Solar cooked foods taste delicious and are more nutritious - Unlike the traditional methods of cooking over an open fire, the GLOBAL SUN OVEN® seals in the natural juices and vitamins in both meat and vegetables. The style of cooking is less harsh, so the meat will tenderize during the cooking process, whereas in traditional methods, often the meat remains tough and as it cooks, it can dry out and become tougher. Many vegetables that we cook in pots with a lot of water will lose their vitamins and goodness into the water, so when you throw away the water, you throw away all the goodness. The solar oven will cook many vegetable without the necessity of adding water, as it uses ther water in the vegetable itself.

Solar Cooking makes for an easier life -the GLOBAL SUN OVEN® does not require constant attention, stirring and checking, as the fluid and moisture is not going to evaporate as it would over flame cooking.
Because the heat type is different to flame, the chances of it burning and sticking are far less. This releases the cook to do other tasks, and as it is so easy to do, even youngsters can look after it with little problem.
